Sidelined

Martha usually enjoys being able to visit Watchtower Orbital. The central hub of the Justice League, far above the planet's surface, a safe haven away from the rest of the world. She takes in every sight and sound, watching the displays to learn everything she can about how the League works, and dreams about what it might be like when she's finally allowed in their ranks.

But days like today are not quite so fun. There's an earthquake in Indonesia, and many people in the Justice League are going to help. Including Superman.

So there are very few other heavy-hitters still around when the displays light up again, bringing news of another problem.

Laura is taking a medical shift at Watchtower Orbital today. She was taking in the media updates on the earthquake, when the warning displays light up.

"Oh dear. Looks like we need more assistance." She looks at the monitors to figure out who would be available to take the call.

[Sorry for the delay. Work. Then Thanksgiving]

None of the more prolific heroes of the League are available, but there are several junior members who can take up the task. Jonathan Kent being the closest, naturally.

Martha comes over to the monitors, looking curiously over her sister's shoulder. "What's going on?"


((No worries! Have been busy on my end too. Somehow I've revived my urge to write fanfic which has been dead for seven years, so that's fun.))

"There are some riots in Africa, that could result in some increased rivalry between the clans." Laura explains.

She presses the call button for her older brother. "JK, report to Watchtower."

[martha_kent]

The response is pretty much immediate. "On my way."

Martha frowns a little. "You're making Jon do it?" She loves her siblings, she really does. And it's exciting to watch them be part of the Justice League, to go out and help people. But it's also a little bit depressing, because she knows she isn't allowed to do it.

[laura_kent]

"I am not making him do anything. If he is willing, Jon will be the best one to handle this situation."

[martha_kent]

"Alone?" Martha asks. "He could use some help, right?"

[laura_kent]

Laura looked up at the readings on the Watchtower map once again. "He might. But it will be good to get his input, either way."

[jonathan_kent]

It doesn't take long for their eldest brother to arrive on the station. "What do we have?" he asks Laura, looking over his shoulder. He notices Martha is there, but assumes she's just there to watch.

[laura_kent]

"We have some riots in Africa that I am concerned about. They are close to some clan territory, and endanger the current treaties between the clans." Laura explains.

[jonathan_kent]

Jon studies the news feeds. "Do we know what the riots are about? Who started it?"

[laura_kent]

"I am not sure, completely. But based on past history of that region, it is likely caused by lack of food, and too many illegal weapons in the hands of hungry people."

[jonathan_kent]

Jon nods. "Guess I'd better put in an appearance, then."

Martha frowns. "Can I help at all?"

[laura_kent]

"I don't think that is a good idea, Martha." Laura frowned.

[martha_kent]

Martha scowls a little. "I never get to help. Why can't I at least help you?" she asks her sister.


((Sorry I'm being so slow. Writing Star Trek fic is eating my brain at the moment and it's been so long since that's happened, I'm a little afraid to stop, lol))

"I am going to be on medical detail Martha. And you are not trained in first aid." Laura explained.
