Name: Martha Kent
Age/Birthdate: 26 January 2023
Species: Human
Powers: None
Played By: Kay Panabaker
Appearance: Martha is the youngest and shortest at 5' tall. She has red hair, which she loves styling in different ways, most often in braids or pigtails. She has brown eyes, and wears makeup on a daily basis. Her wardrobe is greatly varied, both in color and in style, and she tends to follow fashion trends to fit in and explore her individuality. She often wears a necklace or scarf to accessorize, although she does not yet have pierced ears, and enjoys wearing bracelets and rings.
Personality: Of all the Kent children, Martha is the most stubborn and defiant. As a nonpowered human in a family of supers, she is jealous of her siblings for having special abilities, and strives to prove that she's just as good as them. She often gets herself into trouble to try to prove that she can get herself back out again, both socially and physically, and occasionally has to be rescued if she gets in over her head. She wants to be taken seriously, leading her to wear makeup and dress as an adult, often emulating her adoptive mother. She still is very much a girly girl, enjoying pink and playing with Barbies, but often shuns those parts of herself because she thinks it makes her seem like too much of a kid. She is often dissatisfied with herself and is constantly looking for ways to change her appearance or hobbies to fit in. Her favorite color is green.
History: Martha was orphaned when her biological parents died in a house fire when she was a year old. She was adopted by Clark and April at age two, after her red hair and assertive attitude reminded Clark of his own adoptive mother, who shares her name. It did not take long for her to assimilate into the family, being a friendly child and wanting to share the fun with all her new brothers and sisters. She grew up knowing that her family had secrets, and occasionally learning a bit about her siblings' powers, but wasn't let in on the full secret until she was eight years old and demanded to know, whereupon she asked when her own powers were going to show up. She was upset to learn that she was a normal human, and began attempting to learn how to 'activate' the powers she believed were hidden inside of her, even attempting to dabble in magic at age ten, which failed. Still, she didn't let that stop her, demanding to be involved in any adventure that she could find, and sometimes getting into trouble at school. She began wearing makeup regularly at age eleven, believing it would make people take her more seriously, and only increased her efforts when it became clear she wasn't going to grow much taller. She surrounded herself with friends in school, attempting to be popular, and flirting with the boys to seem more grown-up, having her first kiss at age thirteen. She was on the cheerleading squad in middle school, but gave it up after deciding it made her into a decoration and did nothing to show that she's capable of much more. Instead, she joined the kickboxing team as the only female member, and tries to model her skills after the fighting styles of Green Arrow and Batman, her two nonpowered role models. After school, she wants to become a police officer and join the Justice League as a nonpowered hero.
Writing sample:
It's not her fault.
How was she supposed to know that Bobby was a metahuman? All Martha wanted to do was make sure he stopped cheating on math tests, and now she's locked in somebody's locker, standing on a stack of textbooks, because he shoved her in there when she caught him using his unlocking power.
"I hate being short," she mutters to herself, giving the closed door another shoulder-check. It bangs, but doesn't budge. No big surprise, since she doesn't have nearly the momentum she would need, even if she wasn't small.
It's dark in the locker, but she glares at the little slits up above, too high for her to see out of, little bits of light coming through above her head. Though she knows it won't work, she presses her hand against the locking mechanism and tries the spells she read in Mom's book. "Reclude!" Nothing. "Alohomora!" Nope. "Open sesame!"
She sighs, frustrated. If only she had superstrength! She wouldn't have to worry about getting out.
And she hates having to call for help.
It takes a half an hour before her defiance fades enough to let her accept that she isn't getting out on her own. Reluctantly, she closes her eyes and calls, "Daddy, help me." He's gonna ground me forever.
